Early AM Conversations

At 4:53 this morning, I reached for the milk to pour into my coffee...and realized it had expired.  I'm surprised it wasn't moldy green, which would have been apt since the expiration date was March 17th, St. Patrick's Day.

If I was a newlywed, here's how our early AM conversation would have gone:

Me:  "Honey, the milk expired! I'm going to go get you some fresh milk from the grocery, so you can have your coffee just the way you like it."

DH:  "I don't want you leaving the house this early! I'll go pick it up. You just have the coffee mugs waiting when I return."

We've had 21 blissful, but realistic years of marriage. Here's how the conversation went today:

Me:  "Well, snot! Who didn't check the expiration dates before opening the milk?  That last gallon expired over a week ago! Even though it's just 5am, I'm going to go grab some fresh milk from the grocery."

DH:  "Do you have some cash? If not, here's some...and grab me a donut while you're there."

Hahaha! Just keepin' it real, friends. I love that man so much, I gladly took an early morning drive so our coffee time was exactly the way we're accustomed. Life is great, but crazy. My big project is still in project-mode. Spring Break is almost here. I'm hoping to get the project completed and finish some sewing UFOs. If I keep an eye on milk expiration dates, I just might accomplish all my goals! ;)

What're you chatting about today?

Happy Wednesday!

PS...Happy Greek Independence Day!
PPS...Happy Birthday to LittleGirl! She celebrates '12' today.

  1. Ever since coffee became "trendy" with all these fancy-smancy places, it's mind-boggling to me (from an era where the Folgers, Maxwell House, Yuban, et cetera was fine-n-dandy) that folks pay so much for a cup-of-Joe ... with a shot of __________. Cream & sugar was always the choices (now Half & Half, non-Dairy, or Coffee-Mate and Sweet'n'Low, Equal, or Splinda as alternatives). The "back-in-the-day" morning coffee is still a simple pleasure ... and always will be.

    1. The fancy coffee (Skinny Vanilla Latte, please!) is a once-in-a-while treat around here, though a regular cup of Eight O'clock beans ground fine with some milk & sugar is all I really want. I have been known to keep half & half in the fridge for when family visits. I readily agree...the simple things in life are the true pleasures. Thanks for stopping by, Brian! Hope all is well in your world.

  2. LOL! Things DO change with time!
We would have improvised and used creamer or canned milk or something. Or not gotten up so darn early!!!

    1. Milk in the coffee is one thing DH is not willing to compromise.
It was worth the early AM drive to not hear any more about it the rest of the day. ;)
Yeah, we're early-to-bed, early-to-rise kind of people. I wish I could sleep in, but I honestly haven't made it past 7:30am in twenty years. Must be my farm-girl roots.
