Zip Bag and Glasses Case

Remember all that sewing of quilt blocks & Mug Rugs I did last month?
These are a couple of the other projects I completed.

The Dotty Zip Bag was intentionally pieced with uneven scraps. I was trying to get out of my symmetrical comfort zone. This project definitely had my nerves workin' overtime! While I love how the zip bag turned out, the OCD in me REALLY wanted to straighten everything.

I adore this pattern! It's from Flossie Teacakes, and it's the best tutorial & pattern I've found. So easy, even LittleGirl has sewn one. (Note to self:  Take snaps of LG's sewing projects to share on blog!)

I quilted in wavy lines & used a metal zipper for this bag. It was gifted to Cutie, my niece, for her 11th birthday. She had requested make-up from her family, and we thought a bag to hold all her accouterments would be ideal.

This glasses case isn't that wonky IRL.
I obviously didn't press well before taking photos.

The Dual Glasses Case was gifted to GreekC. Remember her special Mug Rug? This is from the same fabric. While intended to carry both eyeglasses and sunglasses, GreekC has made it her own & carries her phone in it. I love that!

The green button is from my faithful Button Jar. It's vintage from the late 40s or early 50s. It was too perfect a match not to use. Do you use vintage buttons in your sewing? If not, I highly encourage you give it a go!

What are you creating today?

Happy Friday!

  1. I have the same OCD problem, wonky just doesn't work for me. The bag turned out beautifully, I bet your niece loved it. The eye case looks great too. Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Oh, how I think I love the look of wonky...until I try to incorporate it into my own sewing. Nope. Symmetry soothes my sewing soul. Glad to know I'm in good company, Kate!

  2. I admire your ability to do zips – that’s something that terrifies me...just cannot master those suckers no matter how hard I try.

Gorgeous projects – both of them. I've made a number of glasses cases with snap shut tops from old tape measures. They’re easy to do and always well received .

I like wonky too but my Virgo nature always makes me want to do stuff unwonky!

    1. Zips are truly easy, Shay. Seriously...LittleGirl made one of these bags & put a zip in by herself. You can do this. I'm sensing we need to do a Sew-Along. Let me know when you're game. ;)

Thanks for kudos. Haven't tried the tape measure tops. Great idea!

Yeah, that wonky case almost gave me hives! Glad it was a gift. Haha!

  4. I understand your desire for symmetry, but it really did turn out fantastic!

    1. Thanks, Michelle! Yeah, that symmetry gives me great peace. LOL
I was able to see the zip bag in action this weekend while visiting my niece. She loved it, and I guess that's all that matters. :)
