Giving Lisa-Jo's (aka Gypsy Mama) "5-minute Friday" challenge another go again this week.
Here are the rules:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
Wide. All I can think of right now is that song Deep and Wide, Deep and Wide, there's a fountain flowing Deep and Wide...
And I never really understood it's meaning.
When you grow up in a home that is religious, but not biblical, there's a lot of catching up to do in your adult life. I mean, we went to church every Sunday, catechism classes Wednesday nights, and even church every weekday during the years that I attended parochial school.
But I never cracked open my bible.
I was told there was no need to read it. The priest would tell me everything I needed to know. And because of this, my Biblical knowledge is not so wide.
My hunger for Biblical knowledge is very wide.
And my understanding of Protestant hymns is extremely limited. I find I must dig into their context as I dig into the Word. It is only then that I am able to understand why in the world we're singing about what-sounded-repulsive-to-me-the-first-time-I-heard-it... redeeming blood.
It's why I now can fathom the depths of my thirst for finding the wisdom I seek in scripture.
It's why I now understand the meaning of that song, "Deep and Wide". I get it now! And it's a great feeling to figure it out, isn't it?Time's Up
