Monday and "The List"

It's Monday! A chance for a fresh start to a new week. The kids are up and getting around for the day. We're into our 'dry run' schedule to get us back into school mornings mode. When the kids arise, they cannot lounge any longer. They must:

  1. Make beds and open shades

  2. Get dressed

  3. Wash faces and comb hair

  4. Eat breakfast

  5. Brush teeth
We're pretty lax about when they need to complete these tasks this during the summer. It takes us a couple of weeks to get back into a routine, so we start the first week of August. This way, they will be ready to go by 7:30am during the school year.

We also have begun earlier bedtimes. For the last two weeks, they've been going to bed 30 minutes earlier. By the end of this week, LittleGirl will be regulated for her bedtime of 8pm. Son#2 will be in bed by 8:30pm, and Son#1 will go to his room at that time with lights out at 9pm. I am a strict 'Bedtime Mama.' I am a firm believer in early bedtimes. I may be stepping on toes when I say this; however, most kids are sleep deprived!I think half of all discipline problems can be resolved by putting kids to bed early and letting them get enough sleep. Hopping down off my soapbox now. :o) What strategies do you employ to get ready for the new school year?

My sewing list is growing! I have not found the size baskets I want to corral my fabrics. They are neatly folded and stacked on the shelves of my sewing armoire. It'll work for now. I'm hoping a trip to IKEA will solve my dilemma. In the meantime, there are several projects I want to complete this week:

  • Disappearing 9-patch Doll Quilt

  • Pink roses Dress for LittleGirl

  • Pink/black Skirt or Dress for Me

  • Green Silk Dress for Me

  • Monogrammed Towels

  • and maybe, Monogrammed Napkins
Sarah, at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, blogged about a Disappearing 9-patch quilt. She graciously sent me a link to a tutorial  that I want to try today. My niece is celebrating her birthday this week, and I think this will make the perfect gift! :o) Thanks for the link, Sarah!

I have some gorgeous pink roses fabric that I want to stitch into a dress for LittleGirl. We have a wedding to attend later this month. I at least want to get it cut out this week. I also have some pink/black floral fabric for me. I need some new skirts, but I think there's enough yardage for a dress. I love dresses! You can throw one on and look 'put together' in an instant. I've been playing around with the Green Silk. I'd like to try getting it draped this week. I'm still learning this technique, so I may resort to digging through my pattern stash to complete this project.

Another niece is having a bridal shower soon. We've decided on dressing up a practical gift...towels. I plan to Monogram some bath towels for her. I'm also toying with the idea of stitching up napkins for her. It would be a great way to continue with the De-Stash Challenge. I have an abundance of holiday-themed fabric, so I'm thinking I might sew up several sets of napkins to dress up her kitchen table. We'll see.

What are you working on this week? Whatever it is, have fun! And as always...
