Happy Birthday, Mom!

Remember that list from Saturday? I accomplished it all except sewing. Hopefully, I'll get to that this afternoon when the boys are finished with school. One item on my list was planning for a birthday celebration for my Mom. We had a little dinner party for her last night. I baked up Pastichio, Spanikopita, and Dinner Rolls bathed in Garlic Butter. To round out the celebration, I baked a 2-layer vanilla cake topped with a fluffy white frosting that LittleGirl insisted I tint pink. "Cause Grandma likes pink, Momma. She's a girlie-girl."

I have the best Mom!
She's funny with a great sense of humor, and she doesn't mind laughing at herself in silliness. She's knowledgeable. If you have a Bible question, she can probably tell you the answer. One of her greatest loves is studying the Bible...and she has every translation for reference! :o)

Mom loves to entertain. Her hospitality is legendary. She not only makes you feel welcome, visiting at Mom's house is like a vacation. She always has a sweet treat to share. And snacking...Mom knows how to make even Cheese and Crackers look like a gourmet feast! Her table is always set with a pretty cloth and beautiful dishes. She always outdoes the previous celebration.

Mom is the best baker I know. She loves to bake, and better yet, she loves to share her baking. :o) If your lucky enough to live near her, you can count on Mom having a homebaked goodie in the kitchen. Her Lemon Meringue Pie is one of my favorites. At Christmas, she's in the kitchen quite a bit. She makes an assortment of tasty treats:  Pfeffernusse (peppernuts) Cookies, Chocolate cover Peanut Butter Balls, Decorated Sugar Cookies, Peppermint Bark, lacy Pizzelles, Divinity, and the only Fudge I'll eat! Yum!

Mom has her quirks, too. That's what I love most about her. I mean, her house is so clean you could eat off the floors. She vacuums the garage! LOL She loves to garden, and is always outside keeping the plants neat and orderly. Her flowers and shrubs stand at attention in a regimented pruning order, because Mom likes straight and even lines. You'd never find a cottage garden style in Mom's yard! That would appear too unruly for her. :o)

Along with her quirks, she has a generous and loving spirit. She's always helping her church friends and neighbors, baking meals or just sitting with someone to keep them company on a lonely day. She likes to be spontaneous, ringing up one of my kids and asking if they'd like to spend an afternoon with her. She'll take them on an adventure downtown, searching out local activities that make my kids appreciate their hometown; all under the guise of creating memories with them. Mom enjoys visiting new places and loves to shop in little boutiques too!

You know what I love best about my Mom? She's taught me that it's okay to make mistakes. Admit you've made one, learn from it, and move on. She's always at the ready to share her life's experiences with me. She shares in my good days, and wants to be there to help me on my bad days. I can only hope you are blessed to have as wonderful a Mom as I have. Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you! :o)
