Inspired on the 4th of July

This morning, as I pause to contemplate the birth of my country, I share some interesting quotes, pictures, and links. I thank God for my Founding Fathers. Their forethought and aspirations have given me freedom to ensure my unalienable rights: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness! Did they realize that would encompass my freedom to create and sew? :o)

I love this quote!

"To live content with small means, to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich, to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never, in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common, this is to be my symphony."

William Ellery
Founding Father, Signer of the Declaration of Independence

If you have kids, they might like this fun interactive to be a signer on the Declaration:

And here's a photo of one of America's most famous sewers, Betsy Ross. Although, I gotta say. I think this is the glamour version. :o) You know she was probably sitting in some dark, Colonial home with her head covered in a cap and clothing in a much more drab color than this bright yellow. To me, with her powdered hair and rouged cheeks, she almost appears like Marie Antoinette in this rendition.

However you choose to pursue your happiness today, take a moment and give thanks to those who've made that possible. I am humbled by the selfless and honorable actions of our soldiers. Thank you.

Happy 4th of July!
