Joyful Saturday

While reading an E-votional this morning, a line stood out:  "Joy is a gift from God." It really doesn't matter what our circumstances are, because joy is not dependant upon the event. Joy is found in "Jesus' unchanging character and promises. And that's exactly where to find true strength and power to endure." Thank you Charles Stanley for bringing that to my attention.

A few years ago, I would not have understood what those words about Joy meant. I thought joy was because of an event or 'happy' time. I had no idea I could find joy in a tragic situation.

Today is the one-year anniversary of the death of my Grandpa Beckham. Although I dearly miss him, I have tremendous joy in knowing I will see him again. I am happy he is not suffering from the confines of his mind that Alzheimer's Disease stole from him.

Grandpa was without a doubt ornery. In all his 90 years, he loved to play practical jokes and tease. He understood that silliness could break into a tense moment. He provided me with so much laughter and good memories because he knew where to look for joy. Although he was a little more legalistic in his faith than I am, knowing he was saved has provided me great comfort. In Grandpa's death, I have found joy. Joy that he is with Christ in heaven. Joy that he is with other family members who believe. Joy that Grandpa's memory and legacy lives on when my kids or I act ornery or silly. I thank my God every day for giving me the courage to find joy in Him when, to an outsider, it seems as if my world is crumbling around me. Perhaps that outsider will seek Him if they see my Joy.

By the way, I haven't forgotten about the Denim Skirt tutorial. It's been a busy week, but I hope to post that tutorial and pattern later today or early tomorrow. :o)
